Woke up at 7am today for the free pancakes at the hostel. That's right my friends, the pancakes are free and you can eat as many as you like! I managed 4. Will have to beat that record tomorrow.
Olly, Anthony, Leigh and I jumped in the car and headed down to feed the dolphins at Tin Can Bay. We waited 30 mins but they never showed up. How rude, you'd think they could be a bit more punctual. Kelly and Laura went kayaking that morning and saw about 80 of them - they must have all been there. Ah well.
Got ready and waited for my surfing instructor Spot to come and pick me up. He pulled up and I jumped in the back of the 4x4. I whacked my head on the roof. Great start!
The drive to the beach was a bit of a journey but was worth it. The sea is clear blue - lovely.
Managed to squeeze myself into a wetsuit - what a sight! Had a quick surf lesson on the sand and then off I went to try it out. I went surfing in Newquay just over a year ago and I was rubbish then so I don't know why I thought I would be any better now!! I managed to get onto my knees but my ankle (from my drunken night in Byron Bay) wouldn't hold me. Decided it was much more fun to bob along in the water on my surf board. Was happily doing that until a huge wave snuck up behind me and rolled me over. I went one way and the surf board is meant to go the other but it followed me and smacked me on the back of the head! Strike 2!
Gave up the idea of becoming a surf champ after that and called it a day. Got back to the hostel, jumped out the car and what did I do? Yep, that's right, I banged my head again! Strike 3!
Had a headache for the rest of the night!
I'm off camping to Fraser Island tomorrow so we had a meeting today to get into our teams and to get a brief on what to pack (only a small bag allowed - yikes!), basic camping tips and more importantly - what alcohol you wanted to order.
Got into a great team. It consists of Kelly, Laura, their friends Michelle and Lindsey from Canada, Elise, an ozzie who works for a travel company, Leigh from our dorm, Sarah who arrived into the dorm that morning and 2 Irish lads Al and Mark who we begged to join our team so they could do manly stuff like build tents and scare off the dingos!
Sounds like a great trip and i'm really looking forward to it. We all went for the $4 dinner again. This place is fab especially when the happy hour kicks in!!
Won't be in touch for a few days whilst I'm at Fraser and I have no mobile signal until I leave Rainbow Beach on Friday afternoon.
Speak to you in a few days xxxx
