Well we are still in Hoi An and have had such a great but exhausting time. Yesterday morning we hired bikes (you think we would have lerant our lesson after last time!) and rode to the beach. I managed to crash into the back of a truck and smiled at the driver then rode away very quickly! The beach was lovely and was not how I expected a beach in Vietnam to be - not sure what I was expecting. We then rode back to the tailors and collected my dress which is really nice (I may upload a photo of it if you want a laugh) and I just tried it on with my pearls and felt very grown up (I did ruin the outfit by wearing my flip flops!) In the afternoon Steph (one of the girls on the trip) and I went back to Blue Dragon restaurant for the cooking class. It was such a laugh. There was a fat pissed Australian guy sat outside who was shouting at passers by and would occasionally get up and laugh at what we were making. He reminded me of that guy from Father Ted but fat and Australian! It was so difficult trying to cut tiny thin strips of carrot/potato using a meat cleaver and trying not to cut off a finger! We made shrimp spring rolls, fish with lemongrass and pork strips with sesame seeds. The dishes were so tasty but the presentation was pretty awful and nowhere near Masterchef standards! On the way home my bike lock bent and wouldn't open and all of the locals kept trying to help. I have decided that they are actually not that bad (well except the ones in the market they are bloody annoying). One man eventually fixed it my hitting it with a rock!
Today Steph and I got up early and went fishing (we had a deal that she would do the cooking class with me if I went fishing with her!) It was not regular fishing as the boats are basically a large round wicker baskets!!! We had to wear the traditional Vietnamese hats and looked like garden gnomes! We learnt how to throw the net into the water which was actually very hard and I managed to catch 6 stones! Eventually managed to catch several really tiny fish and even a pufferfish which was so cool. We then attempted to steer the round boat and I went round and round in circles for ages until the guide got fed up and took over. We had a crazy Vietamese lady with us too who was just like Kat from Big Brother! She kept saying how 'happy happy' she was to meet me and that I was her best friend ! She kept taking photos of me on her phone. Had a really nice lunch on board which I think should have been the fish we caught but as we didn't catch any we had vegetarian food instead! Had a really chilled out afternoon and we are having a group dinner later for our last night in Hoi An as we leave for Saigon tomorrow. Bye for now xx
