Well this is it, the final leg of my journey - Lima!!! It has been a very enjoyable few days and we arrived in Lima this afternoon. We celebrated Mark's birthday in Nazca on Friday night and had such a laugh. Started the celebrations drinking Danish vodka by the pool and then continued with wine, sangria and some orange potion that Roberto provided! Managed to break the gift we got for Mark but the huge cake was greatly received. Several bottles of wine later we went into the lovely Nazca town and ate platefuls of meat before going in to an almost empty club! Hit the dancefloor and I have vague memories of dancing with a poor waiter but it paid off as we got free beer all night!! The night ended with Tom, one half of the Canadian couple being sick in the hotel courtyard!
The following morning we were all feeling a bit worse for wear and left Nazca for Pisco. We stopped in Ica at lunctime and there were huge sand dunes surrounding the town. We all wanted to go sandboarding but were so exhausted and noone had the energy but we ended up renting boards anyway. The sand was scalding as we were all in flipflops and staggered about 3 metres up the dune as couldn't be bothered to walk any further. Attempted to stand up but was too scared to wax my board to make it go faster so it went down ridiculously slowly and eventually stopped! I then had a great time sliding down on my bum and we had a muck around for about 5 minutes before giving up and returning the boards to the surprised vendor! We then stopped at a pisco sour factory and managed to stomach a surprising amount of shots! Arrived in Pisco late afternoon and had a wander around. There was an earthquake in Pisco 2 years ago and looking around the town it was like it happened yesterday and so many buidings are stil rubble and hundred of people are still living in shacks. It was a pretty sad place and not much to see except for the plaza.
This morning we woke up at 6 and left Pisco for the Ballestenas Islands, which is apparently quite similar to the Gallapegos Islands although on a much smaller scale! Got the boat across and Laerke and I were drooling over the yummy tour guide! The island was beautiful and absolutely full of thousands and thosands of birds, penguins and sealions. It was an incredible place and so amazing to see all of the wildlife - and it was pretty funny when Laerke got pooed on! We then got a public bus (a real Peruvian experience!) to Lima. Arrived here thsi afternoon and have just been out exploring. We are off for a fancy dinner later to celebrate our last night together as a group. Very sad that the tour is over as we all got on so well but I already have plans to go to Copenhagen later this year to see Laerke! Only 2 days left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xx
