I don't do early starts and this morning just confirmed that! We were on a bus from the hotel in Adelaide and on our way down the Fleurieu peninsula to Cape Jervis. Here we had planned to stop for brekkie before hopping on the 10am Sealink ferry to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. The brekkie options weren't quite what we expected and I ended up having a flat white (it was a good one Gaz!) and a meat pie!!
I walked down the jetty whilst the boat was prepared and soon realised how windy it was. They could have used me as a wind sock! We boarded the Spirit of Kangaroo Island boat and headed across Backstairs Passage. We'd chosen to sit at the front of the boat and were correctly warned that it would be a bumpy ride. We still managed to eat half a sticky bun each and drink a cuppa, so it wasn't too terrible!
We were met at the port by the not quite with it lady from the car rental place and we picked up our new car, Tilda. We popped in to pay the owners of our accommodation and drove to Echo Beach House on Island Beach, seeing a kangaroo on the way. It is perfect and will become home for five days.
Having unpacked we headed back towards Penneshaw to stock up on food. We also stopped at Sunset Wines and Dudley cellar door. We enjoyed a local food/ wine tasting platter at Sunset whilst taking in some good views.
On the way home we stopped at our local beach and caught up with a couple of pelicans. It's a very friendly beach with golden sands, clear seas and very calm, despite the high winds we have here at the moment.
We cooked our first meal and had some delicious local smoked salmon. A very nice end to a great day.
