John here…
After our aeroguard immersion and late breakfast we headed into town and the falls via the hotel shuttle. The entrance cost was US$30 per person plus US$1 for a map. The day promised fine weather with a sunny 28 degrees. The map suggested a route to walk through the falls and highlighted view points for "the photo" so off we set, starting with Livingstone's statue. The falls were not at full power but we managed many great photo's. As we moved through the falls, which are 1,708 metres wide, zephyrs would push up spray from the abyss and cover us with either a fine mist or in some parts heavy drops, just like walking in the rain, making that photo shot difficult. We both imagined what it must be like in April / May when the falls are at full power. We wound our way to the bridge and watched bungy jumping for a while before walking back to the Rainforest cafe for some lunch and refreshments. As we headed back to town we dropped into the Victoria Falls Hotel and found some meerkats roaming the grounds. This completed the animal list for me on this trip as we missed them everywhere else. We also decided to come back tomorrow to have afternoon tea on the terrace, as this hotel has fantastic views and a great ambiance. Next it was into town for a final drink before catching the shuttle back to the hotel and dinner.
Quote of the day - "Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight" - David Livingstone 1855 when first seeing the Falls, although I am sure these weren't his immediate thoughts..perhaps OMG...!!
Distance walked 8.5km; Sunny 28deg; Altitude 885m
