Judy here…
Now we are down to just the two of us travelling, with all our travel buddies back home. It was an early start, which I hate, for our flight to Victoria Falls via Johannesberg. All went smoothly and we arrived in Victoria Falls the same time as four other flights. This is a small airport and is not geared for this influx of people. We queued on the edge of the tarmac, in the sun and gradually made our way to the shade. #ater was handed out and everyone pounced! Before entering the building we were questioned by a man looking official in a white coat with HEALTH written in black texta on his coat pocket to ensure we had not been to West Africa! Eventually someone from Immigration came and started checking paperwork to help move the queue along and slowly we inched forward. After an hour and now inside the building, we finally were allowed to enter Zimbabwe! Before leaving Oz I had tried to book an airport transfer to our hotel, but had not received any response, just as we organised our taxi, we saw our name being held by a driver, so they did get the email just didn't confirm, the taxi driver wasn't happy at loosing a fare!.
Our hotel is set on the edge of the Zambezi River and has thatched roofs, very pretty, however compared to the previous accommodation we have had on this trip, the room is tiny, as John said "hardly enough room to swing a monkey"! After settling into our hotel, which is in a wildlife area, we saw monkey's frolic in the garden and a net was placed over the pool, we assume so the elephants and hippo's don't decide to take a swim in the night. We watched the sunset, listened to African music and had dinner on the terrace overlooking the river on a balmy evening, but with lots of mozzies. This is the first place we have found them to be a problem, we will definitely need the mosquito net around the bed tonight and now the insect repellent we bought with us is coming in handy!!
