Nick here…
We commenced our morning at Kisiwa House with a regime of strenuous exercise which entailed running up three flight of stairs to the rooftop restaurant, ok I have taken some licence here, otherwise more commonly stated as 'a little bull', however with sweat on brow and a little breathlessness I made it to the rooftop. We then all enjoyed a stellar cuisine breakfast of fresh fruit and a fantastic fry up!!!
Following breakfast we embarked on a walking tour of Zanzibar in the capable hands of our tour guide Judy . We explored Zanzibar's Stone Town which is a world heritage site having some 1,000 beautiful coral stone buildings and to Lozzie's delight over 200 hundred larger carved doors of architectural significance. I agree she has a "door" problem and needs help!
The city has an integrated maze of very narrow streets linking homes, shops and commercial businesses which are only wide enough for pedestrians and motor bikes. However our proficient tour guide Judy, with map in hand and "my team follow me" attitude, navigated us to the Old Slave market followed by a visit to the Catholic Cathedral, Hamamni baths, Spice Market and then concluding our walking tour with refreshments at Zanzibar coffee house.
The girls then went on a mission... a must have manicure. So Timo and I had a boys time out with beers at the 6 Degrees South hotel bar which is located on the beachfront .
Late afternoon we departed for Zanzibar's Kisauni airport for our 30 minute flight to Dar Es Salaam. The flight was delayed by some three hours, not happy!!! We arrived at Dar Es Salaam at 7.30pm booked into the Holiday Inn, a quick meal and off to bed for a 4am start to the airport for a flight to Johannesburg / Capetown, not happy !!!
Quote of the day ...from Nick "not happy Jan!"
