Bwana Judy here…
The gang of six were all together for breakfast, and this hotel offered champagne for breakfast, however due to our various malaise, the boys were the only ones "up for it"... Elaine was feeling so much better after some much needed treatment from the Dr, who having administered to her from 5.30pm > 11.30pm the day before and back again at 7am this morning, said the fee was $30!!! and Kevin said what about all the medication and the Dr replied, pay whatever you think it's worth!!!
We headed for Arusha and an early lunch together before heading to different airports for our respective flights. Elaine and Kevin back home to England, Laurel, Nick and us to Zanzibar. We shall miss the company of our "pommie" friends as we had such fun and so many laughs together, with great memories shared!
Wow...Zanzibar, the "spice island", where we flew in over the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and landed in humidity and just loved the feel of Stone Town with its jumble of alleyways and narrow streets, Arabic-style houses, with ornate balconies and latticework and lively street-side vending stalls. We arrived at our accommodation, Kisiwa House, which was full of character, with carved wood decor, steep staircases and lovely period-style furnishings. We adjourned to the roof top terrace to take in the view of the water and surroundings, and then headed for a walk along the waterfront, to watch the sunset. We ended at Forodhani Gardens, as in the evening these waterside gardens see the locals come out to sit and also it is a street food market, serving all types of food, where bargaining is expected. We, however, headed for dinner at a quaint restaurant and enjoyed some fritto misto and seafood linguine, which was excellent along with the local spiced coffee which includes, cinnamon, cardomon and ginger. Another great day!
