wow well since the last time i updated this blogs i have done so much. its so amazing out here. the weather is so hot everday. havnt seen any bad weather like you do in cornwall. thank god. feeling sorry for all you lot there. haha
anywayz i will tell you what i have been up to.........
during our time spent in luang prabang we explored there market which had so much to offer. Everything was so cheap and everyone is so nice. they all work so hard. they all get up really early to set up at about 6 and finish quite last at night maybe about 11 pm. but before they set up they make food for the monks to hand out. the monks arnt aloud to beg so lots of people from the village sit out side there place and give out food when the monks come by. this was what we did on the last day ! we wanted to see what it would be like. whilst we where there we did take up the oppertunity in getting a thai massage which oh my god..... was amazing. Oil massage for an hour from top to toe. you cant really ask for much more. anyhoo that was at the end of our stay there.
We booked a Taxi from luang prabang which i told you in my last blog which took five hours. we arrived at a place which i really cant remember the name of. did spend much time there. no one had any money because the cast machines wernt working. so the post office was the next best thing to change money. we the booked a boat to take us down the river to muang ngoi. the boats are really strange. Its a thin boat with a toyota car engin strapped to the back. It was able to fit quite alot of people on board but no seating was avaliable. so you just sat on the woodern floor. uncomfy but did the job. the boat ride took about an hour. when we arrived everything felt quite strange. there was just one long road with lots of run down food stores and guest houses, resturants etc. lots of younge children playing and small dogs and cats walking around. we struggled to finda place to stay for the 9 of us. A younge lad called Jay who lived on the island was able to fine us a place to kip. but it was 3 shacks, 2 with double beds and 1 with singles. it was ok. had the best view ever though. looked right out on to the fast flowing river. everything is so relaxed here. the beds wer uncomfy but that was fine. Jay then found us somewhere to eat aswell. he said it was his step mums resturant. well there resturant are very strange. no1 else was there, it was empty. the food whish she cooked was nothing special but she was giving out shots for free. i think it was lao lao. its there whisky which they drink often through out the day. they r very generous with there food and drink i have noticed. after a few nights here i did seem to make friends with day more so than the others in our group. he did make me laugh. for some strange reason he found it funny to paint his nails purple and wear a blue dinner jacket and boardies. mmm stange boy.. sooon where we to find out that he was able to take us on a fishing trip for 60,000 kip each. so the next day we got up early to find that he had two boats waiting for us down at the river. we had to travel about 15 mins up the river to the right spot. a net was flung in the river and the boat did a big circle to catch the fish in the net. the lads jumped in to try and grab the fish before they swam away and ended up catching about 10 fish all together. once everyone had a go the driver took us to a small beach just off the river where there was another boat and the crew cooking where fish on an open fire. they wer all drinking the wiskey out of the bottle and offereing it to us. It tasted like Paint stripper. i think that the fish we cought where- cat fish- something which looked like a pike. !!! not to sure! anywayz Jay and his mates cooked the fish over this fire which took about an hour or so. they layed really big gree leaves down on the beach which we all sat around. the fish was placed in the middle and Sticky rice was also on the menu! everyone tucked in. just ising finges and nothing else it felt quite amazing to do. not long after we had to head back as we needed to get a boat back up the river to get a taxi for 9 hours to vang vieng.
once we packed all our stuff together andgot a boat ride back up to the place where we wer getting the taxi to we sat down and had a meal for about 1 pound 80. haha ! cheap cheap they say ! its was ok. at 8 oclock at night the taxi arrived out side the resturant. this was goin to be a long night. the driver didnt speak any english and everyone was very tired. half way thought the journey the driver stopped to take a nap for about an hour and a half which he didnt tell us about ! at 2 oclock in the morning no one had slept a wink. another taxi arrived by the side of us and said we had to get on that one. no one told us we had to swop over but we went with it. then we got told we had to pay this guy 200,000 kip which no1 had. an hour later and we r all arguing with the driver and two other guys! they didnt understand that we had no money because of the cash point muck up. some how in the end the driver got back in the taxi and finished of our journey.
At 7 oclock the next day we arrived in vang vieng. this place is filled with younge travellers. lots of good looking women which was right up my street haha. anyhoo we found some where to stay quite quickly for 30,000 each pernight. it was called 'the other side'. we had to cross the river on this man made bridge which was extremly dodgy. when everyone was walking over it the wood would bend to almost breaking point. but it was able to stay strong for the time we spent there. the rooms which we stayed in where very basic. everything was made out of wood. ours was placed underthing big tree which took the sunlight away. nice and chilled. it had a hamock out side the door. i spent alot of time here ! the bed was a double which was massive. but uncomfy. there was a english style toilet which i was happy to see. but a shower which was very slow and quite cold. but other than that it had a very nice view of the river.
the next day we tryied out the TUBING. we had to pay all together 115,000 for tubing. 60,000 for the deposite and 55,000 for the tubes. we got a tuk tuk down the the river which was about 15 min drive. all the tubes where tied onto the top of this tiny tuk tuk. when we got there lots of people where drinking at the 1st bar and we hadnt even touched the water. we all got drinks and took some pictures together before we got in. the 2nd bar was only about 50 meters away down the river. the water wasnt that warm but it was very refreshing. when we got there loads of people where sat on this balcony drinkingand watchingpeople swing off the tree into the river. everyone was having an amazing time in the heat. the tree swing was incredible. i couldnt keep off it! it was so high when u let go begger than any jump iv done before. we spent about an hour here i think then moved on to the next one down the river. the next bar was pretty much the same although the swing was a tiny bit smaller and there wasnt as many people watching. i thought that i should take up the oppertunity to bang out a back flip off the swing. i was very nevous as it so strange having to hold on to something to do it ! but in the end i did it and landed perfectly. Joel then tried and succseded but ty and dan failed terribly! it was extremly funny to watch ! there was a small monkey chained up to a post with a tarzan costume on. i didnt like this. it didnt like females anywhere near it but it didnt mind the males. i fed it a bannana which i snatched from my hands in no time. they wer feeding it lao lao whisky which it drank. i couldnt really look anymore. it was not nice. at the last bar everyone was pretty hammerd and having the most amazing time ever. we ended the tubing at about 6 or 7. had a meal as son as we got back and went straight to bed! everyone to nackered.
i will update some more soon i hope xx
