We had an short game drive to check on the activity overnight - there had been little noise by the pan and there were no signs of the lions from last night.
We found our lions from yesterday morning who looked much cleaner - the carcass was definitely much 'wiffier' and we needed to sniff wild basil in its vicinity - although they visited it they didn't eat - perhaps finally giving it to the flys! I did get a lovely photo of the female who came close to the jeep - and I was in the doorless front seat - you could see the vehicle reflected in her eye! (today's photo)
We saw brown hooded kingfisher and a new bird for us - the purple crested turaco.
We then headed back to the lodge for a couple of hours watching activity at the pan - elephant, impala, crested guinea fowl, kudu and baboons all coming to drink.
Mid morning we left for fly camp on the Zambezi - we could clearly see Zambia and indeed opposite Kasaka Camp where we first stayed and were inspired to visit Mana Pools from.
The camp was being set up as we arrived - so we rested and took in the views under a big tree - ate lunch then late afternoon we went for a walk along the floodplain. I photographed iconic Mana Pools scenes - herds of impala running as we approached, 3 kudu trotting off when they saw us, elephants browsing and picking up the Aldiba tree pods and a glorious sunset over the Zambezi. The lovely crimson carmen bee-eaters are just arriving, we also saw the white fronted bee-eaters nesting along the river bank from us.
Dinner was overlooking the Zambezi under a clear vibrant starlit sky.
One of the joys of the Zambezi meant we were serenaded by hippos grunting squeaking and mating - the latter a new sound for us!!
(Disaster struck my photographs while trying to export them to iPhoto - another hard drive error which meant I can't access my stored photos - especially the recent ones not transferred to iPhoto - a problem to resolve at home and immensely irritating!)
