The morning dawned at 4.00am after the sunset at about 1am ....but we saw neither. We were up having tea at 5.30 and I was in the gym just after 7.15 though. As the sun was shining and it was warm by arctic standards we opted for breakfast outside as we approached the icebergs of Melville Bay. The ice sheet is very close to shore hence the large number of icebergs. After breakfast we cruised in amongst them and just imbibed the craftsmanship of the natural processes that were moulding them - we also watched gill omits, glaucous gulls and a fulmar who was paddling on the water and looked to have an injured wing. Lunch was a BBQ and although we started in the sun we soon became cool as the captain up anchored and made his way to Cape Yorke - we could see the monument to Pirie as the skies were unusually clear albeit later cloud and sea fog rolled in occasionally obscuring it. Our anchorage was in a bay close to a pebbly beach and glacier where we went ashore for a walk - enjoying the sunshine and the peace and quiet. As we were last to arrive and then leave we did get some save with out the large trails of yellow jacketed human penguins!!
Back on the boat by 1900 we got ready for dinner at 2000hr then bed!
(Today's photo is Gullimots flying in front of the many icebergs during our morning zodiac cruise.)
