We woke up early and were able to watch a lovely sunrise (todays photo) with a dhow sailing by on its daily business......I could see 4 people on board and wondered what they were doing were they traders or fishermen....
It was warm not hot and there was no wind yet so I went for a long walk along the beach, a run was impossible as the tide was just turning and the the sand was too soft. I intended to only be out for 30 minutes but the environment was so intoxicating and consuming that I returned just over 45 minutes later - and was met by John emerging from our cabin to see where I was.
Who can resist baboons foraging for their breakfast or the twitter and insect catching of white front bee eaters or the numerous wading birds watching the receding tide standing on the banks with a few already starting to feed and vigorously poking the sand with their beaks. It was beautiful and a lovely memory of our stay in Saadani.
After breakfast we had an hour trip to the airstrip - our aircraft which was just for us, as it turned out, arrived ahead of schedule and took us back to Zanzibar, an 11 minute trip, where we awaited our flight to Dar es Salam.
In Dar we took a taxi to the international airport as it is quite a distance from the local terminal and booked in, then waited for our flight to Nairobi via - guess where - yes Zanzibar.
Our departure was delayed for about 30 - 40 minutes but apart from that our travel went smoothly .......that said the heat was violent - and waiting for a tardy passenger and then waiting for passengers to join us in Zanzibar meant we cooked in our little metal tube!
Nicely done and basted in perspiration it was good to arrive in the relative cool of Nairobi and the Hilton.
After a nice shower I took the opportunity of free wifi to attack my 500+ emails ....and then sleep!
