The alarm went off at 5.15am as we had a date with tea and rusks at 6am before heading off for a bush walk.
The walk was a nice introduction for the group into the little things in the bush - we did to get to see nyala- a very chilled male who was very close to us feeding,(today's photo) and two females on the other side of the river, baboons in the trees and zebras running - we are not sure if an alarm call from the baboons and a bushbuck which caused the zebras to run was due to a predator or us!
We also saw a range of birds - black capped bulbul, woodpecker , yellow hornbill, go away bird and a brown hooded kingfisher. We also heard purple crested turacos, while collared barbet - both male and female calling in unison - and the haunting call of a fish eagle.
Back in camp we had a lovely brunch before some headed off to the snake park while others rested and caught up with bits and bobs. I caught up with my blog while contemplating a swim - its 10 degrees cooler today!
Today's afternoon game drive held different surprises we spotted:- a heavily pregnant rhino with her soon to be jettisoned son - she will concentrate on the baby and he will have to make his own way in life, a cheetah and 4 fluffy cubs - she was on an impala kill while they were running around - when she called them the only one who really tucked in was the smallest who was nearly lost in the carcass and finally we saw the two really lovely new lionesses conveniently relaxing by the road - they hope they will mate with the lion we saw yesterday and produce a pride.
Unlike the night drive yesterday tonight's produced zilch - maybe because it was so cold the animals stayed in their daytime haunts longer or maybe it was the luck of the draw - who knows.
Our after dinner briefing prepared us for the need for an early start so the guides could pack up everything and get on the road to Kruger.......I set our alarm for 5am.
