Today was a travel day - we left the lovely Tofino ( today's picture is the view from our apartment) and headed to Telegraph Cove on the northern east coast of Vancouver Island. It was a good 6 hour drive broken by stops for brunch at Port Alberni and a fantastic soft serve custard/yogurt ice cream 'thingy' called a froosh in Campbell River - it was made in the locally owned cafe called Quench where we sat eating our way slowly through it! Refreshed we headed off for Telegraph Cove - another 2 hours but thankfully on wide open roads. We stopped one more time at a hamlet called Woss for chocolate and a loo break. The directions we had were great and we found our way effortlessly to Hidden Cove Lodge our home for the next 3 nights. A long unpaved road took us from the road to the lodge which really was was tucked into a hidden cove. Total trip was about 560 kms.
We were greeted by friendly staff and checked into our room.
They had just had a call from 'Tide Rip' the company who were doing our bear trip on Thursday; they wanted to change us due to bad weather coming in - they wanted to take us tomorrow instead - we said yes and they then rescheduled our whale watching trips with Stubbs out of Telegraph Cove for Thursday and Seasmoke for Friday -they did a great job as the arrangements worked really well with the changes in weather we were about to encounter - not one trip was lost or diminished as each boat was able to cope with the conditions they were confronted by.
The itinerary sorted we had dinner at the lodge and prepared for our bear watching in Knight inlet tomorrow.
