So I'm officially homesick for America. I didn't hate Europe before and I won't hate it tomorrow, but for the past two days, yes, I hate it and it hates me. Don't worry, nothing really bad has happened, I've just been fighting Italy's systems, which is never a good idea in any country. Unfortunately, it's been necessary. Imagine what it would feel like to spend five whole days at the DMV filling out forms, waiting in line, only to accomplish absoultely nothing, and you will know how I feel.
I know I've written about a few of the annoying things on previous posts but the past two days have been enormously more frustrating, almost pushing me to the point of booking an immediate flight home. The apex of my anger occured Monday when the bank (the one the school sent me to pay my rent after they failed to send me the online payment link which apparently didn't even work anyway) demanded that I pay my entire rent (a LOT of euros) in cash! It's a BANK FOR GOODNESS SAKE and they DON'T TAKE credit/debit cards. I kind of exploded and let's just say the tellers may hide under their desks the next time I walk through the door.
Then, when I had to wait in line for an hour and a half at the good-for-nothing Post Office today (after having tried to accomplish the same task at least three times previously) my outrage dimmed to rejection and despair. It drained the rest of the fight out of me. Luckily, everything should be taken care of, at least for now...
About the only thing I haven't had trouble with is the food, so on the bright side, I'm enjoying the paninis for lunch, pasta for dinner, and whole olives as snacks.
Ugh, hope everything is good for you all in the land of the free and the brave.
