We arrived to our hostel in Salta '7 Duendes' a good hostel, clean, social but the breakfast was poor. We didn't do a lot the first day apart from gather some information about what there is to do. That night we got chatting to a French couple, Francois and Capucini who had also arrived that day. They asked us if we would like to join them the following day to go visit the 'Cerro San Bernardo' which is a mountain with a great view of Salta once you get to the top. You could take a cable car to the top but as it was a beautiful day so we opted to climb the 1060 steps to the top and make the most of the sun. Once at the top we had a perfect clear day and could see the whole of the city, after taking some pictures and cooling down we went back to book our bus tickets to Bolivia. That evening the four of us went out to dinner. A restaurant 'El Viejo Jacks' recommended to us by Stephen who had been here previously. It would be the first steak dinner that Francois and Capucini had eaten, I don't think they were disappointed at all after a 600g steak and chips! We walked back to the hostel via the Plaza 9 de Julio where there was a very busy park like area with bars and restaurants surrounding the square, with the famous church that everybody seems to have a photo of.
On the Sunday we went to go to a crafts market in the city centre which the hostel recommended to us. It was a really hot day and the market was disappointing so after stopping in the main plaza for a quick drink we headed back to the hostel. We played cards with Francois and Capucini, who also came back early from the market and chatted to an American man who had cycled from the USA. He had a lot of stories to tell.
