The last week and a half have been amazing. Living with the Oxleys was terrific.
The Oxleys have a lovely house in Harpenden, England which was my home for a week and a half. It is close to London without being too close, it's small without being too small, and teaming in history and heritage.
My time in England started at Victoria Station where I was to meet Will. Not only was I looking all over a jam packed station with no clue where Will was, I was carrying two backpacks and a 1.7m snowboard.. It was a disaster!
After finding Will we found a nice pub, grabbed a bite to eat and a notoriously "Aussie" Fosters - I'm actually quite fond of it. It was great to have a long catch up with my old mate. Once we finished dinner we made our way go the "tube" and headed for home.
On arrival of the quiet little town of harpenden, we walked in, unexpected, on dinner. Turns out Will forgot to tell his mum I was arriving that day!! I felt terrible! His mum was getting up, mid-meal, to set up the guest room. It just shows you how far a little message can go.
During my stay I ventured to London twice, the first of which involved seeing the queen! I saw Big Ben, the London bridge, the London eye, Abbey Road, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard, all with my friend Eleanor. The second trip was a bit later in the day where I met Will after work and we went to a pub for a few pints.
Also during my stay, Will's mum took me to Windsor to see the castle. It was spectacular. The queen is one lucky woman. We also went to St Albans to see the cathedral. It's is an amazing building. Funnily enough there was a fashion show being held in the cathedral that night so the major hall had a runway in it. It took away from the immediate beauty of the interior but it was still beautiful all the same.
Will's family were extremely hospitable and it was an absolute pleasure to meet them.
Today I left the small town of harpenden and England altogether to start the next leg of my journey, Wales..
