Further south and around the bottom of the Nicoya Peninsular sits the sleepy town of Montezuma or Montefuma as it is known as locally thanks to its popularity with stoners and Rastas. We only stayed one night but the main attraction for us was the local waterfalls which were only a short walk from out hostel (Hotel Lys) on the beach.
The footpath we followed quickly petered out and disappeared into the river so we decided to carry on upstream through the water. Sticking to the sides but often forced to cross in the hope of a better path. After a pleasant 20 minute hike in boardshorts and bikini's we arrived at the falls. The river was swollen and brown thanks to the last few days of rain fall but it was still clean and refreshing and a great reward after a sweaty walk.
That evening we went to a local bar that has a film showing every night and relaxed before we headed off to our next destination and the one I was most looking forwards too, the Monteverde Cloud Forrest.
