Suva - what a waste of land......
So I arrived on Sunday evening into the capital of Fiji, Suva. I got off the bus and jumped into a taxi to Raintree Lodge, my accommodation. It wasn't until I got there that I realise Suva is built in and around the rainforest. No sunbathing on the beach over the last two days but sitting in my room watching it shower on and off. That's right, I was in Fiji and it was raining.
On arrival, the girl on reception had less personality than the door to my room. I did get a free upgrade to a twin room though. No, not because they had oversold the dorms but because I had booked a room with them. It was so dead there that think everyone got upgraded. I was actually the only person staying in my block of rooms. To be fair the rooms were really nice and actually the facilities weren't bad either.
I got settled in my twin room. Me in one bed and my bag got the upgrade from the floor into the other bed. Together we chilled listening to some music before drifting off to sleep. I talk of my bag as if he is a person because he has been my closest companion over the last 48 hours. A bit like Tom Hanks in Castaway with Winston.
So anyway, after my early evening snooze I headed to the restaurant. "Table for one?" the waitress asked. I didn't know whether to look around sarcastically as if there was someone behind me or respond with "Thanks for rubbing it in". Instead I just nodded and sat down. I ordered a medium pizza. The large said "enough for 2 to share" in brackets.
After dinner I went back to the room and remembered I had Football Manager on my iPod. I was now kind of disappointed I only had 48 hours in this s*** hole. New Game - Team: Chelsea (f*** that am I putting the effort in to win. I just want to kill some time). Got the game up and running so that it was ready for the next day and into bed at about 10pm. That felt so weird.
Next morning alarm went off at 7am and up I got to get ready before my visa interview at the US embassy. It was a waste of time. Every question they asked I wanted to reply with "I thought I filled in an application for a reason. f***ing use it!!!!" Anyway I passed and probably the most annoying thing I could have heard at 9am was "come and collect it tomorrow at 3pm". Jesus.
I thought whilst I was out and about I would find out if I could catch a bus after collecting my passport. I got a taxi to the bus station and had a walk round the area. All that was there was supermarkets. About 15/20 of them. Oh and a bakery. It was crazy. They all sold the same stuff. Anyway, after the infamous Suva supermarket tour I headed back to the hostel, arriving about 10am. That gave me just over 13 hours of Football Manager time before bed. Completed two seasons winning the quadruple in my second. Maybe a future career?
Anyway after a great nights sleep I had about 5 hours to chill this morning. A full english and about 4 more hours of FM. I'm now England manager!! Collected my visa from the US embassy and am now on a bus back to Nadi where I can now experience the real Fiji.
Hopefully tomorrow I will be meeting up with Pete and Louise for Pete's last night.
Hope everyone else is good
