20th July
Arrived at kthe Grand Canyon this evening, had our first glimpse. We will explore properly tomorrow.
21st July
We went for a walk down a path that had very curley corners. The path went down to the very bottom of the Grand Canyon but we only went down a little way. We saw lots of Mules going down to the bottom. They were delivering supply's down to a ranch down there. It said that where we were going should take about 3-5 hours but it only took us 1hour and 50 minutes including a 10 minute rest! That afternoon we went for a walk along the edge of the canyon, my mum went a bit wibbely because it was so high. We walked back to the visitors centre where we were just in time to attend a Ranger programme. I had to pretend to be a dead fish! We finished the day having dinner outside in a thunderstorm. Heading down to Phoenix tomorrow, to catch a plane to MEXICO.......
23rd July
Arrived in Mexico after some curious flights where wre zig-zagged across
the country. We started in Phoenix and flew to Los Angeles, from Los
Angeles to Huston (Texas), then finally from Huston to Merida. Merida
is in the Yukatan peninsula of Mexico. My first impredsion of Mexico is
hot, very humid and everyone speaks spanish really quickely!
24th July
Hòla amigos! Bienvenido a Mexico! Es bueno, pero mucho caliente.
We spent the day walking around Merida, and swimming in the hostel
pool. There were hammocks hanging over the pool, and iguanas in the
garden , not forgeting the coconut trees growing out of coconuts, the
smelly smells, the horse and cart rides, the white painted tree trunks
and the crazy telephone wires overhead.
25tJuly
Instantly (at least it felt like it) after getting up we caught a bus to Chichen Itza.
Chichen Itza is filled with Mayan ziggurats (stepped pyramids). We wandered around and heard about human sacrifices that may have taken place about 1000 years ago. In some of the ruined temples human remains had been found. Some of the ruins had been demolished, but not by people but by the jungle and by tree roots knocking them down.
It was very busy there, lots of tourists and people selling stuff. And very hot too.

Grace The Mayan ruins look amazing. It must have taken ages to carve the stones. Did you run along the path at the Grand Canyon to be able to do it so quickly ? What's for breakfast where you are ? xxx
