We woke up early in the morning to catch the ferry accross to the island. We had to load the trailer up with all of the bikes, food and luggage. There is so much stuff needed for 8 people!! When we got to the island after a beautiful ferry ride, our luggage would be delivered to our unit so we went on a cycle ride around some of the island. This was tough. I was so exhausted, and was showed up by the mega fit boys who played football and swam the whole time! Luckily Toni felt the same as me so I didn't feel so bad. After some time around the island we headed to the food area and got some more subway. Brilliant! We could then go into the unit as the changeover and all the cleaning had finished.
The unit is right on a beautiful white sandy beach with lots of little sailing boats littered around it. Every now and then a sting ray would swim right along the beach and could be seen really clearly. So so beautiful. That evening we went for a swim and play on the beach until the sunset, it is so amazing that we'll see the sunset all this week. That evening we decided to play a game of Talisman. This is a VERY long game! Somehow we managed to finish it when they had only ever finished 1 other game in the entire time they've had it. It took us about 5 hours...
Quite a lot of the week was spent playing on the many beaches, snorkling in the reefs so close by and cycling around the beautiful place. One thing that the Lindsays introduced me to was dune running. It's basically just running down a very steep dune as fast as you can all at once, eventually ending up in the sea. I was supprised at how fun this simple idea was. I really had a great time, even though it was also exhausting along with every other thing I've done with them. There were some spectacular wipeouts and some amazing tumbles but everybody could enjoy it, even Doratu. The evenings consisted of some cake and chya (nepali tea) followed by a board game or some other type of entertainment. One evening Sam and I made the cake and I have got to say that it was spectauclar.
Daniel was really keen on fishing so he would get up early in the morning or go out in the evenings to try and catch some fish. He was either unlucky or just new to it as he was often unsucssesful but one day he caught a lovely fish that we barbaqued and there was enough for everyone.
All over the island there are some tiny animals call Quokkers. They are marsupials and are like rats crossed with kangaroos. They are really tame as people have been around them for ages so you can stroke them if you want. They can only be found on this island so it was awsome to see them.
One of the boys faverite things to do on the beach is to dig a massive hole and put someone, usually Doratu, in it then fill it all back in again. She loved doing this and would often come back to the unit completely covered in sand after unsuccessfully washing it off in the sea. It was really nice to just have a week relaxing after all the travelling I have done and all the travelling I am going to do. It was so lovely to spend so much time catching up with Sam and the rest of the family. I'd definately love to see them a lot more but it's a shame they live on the other side of the world.
Sam is going to England soon so sadly I'll miss him there but either I'll come to Oz again or he'll come over on some of his many travells that he seems to be doing.
After we got the ferry back to the mainland and got back home, it was very sad to be packing up again, ready to be off to Sydney but also very excited to get our travells underway. It'll be brilliant to see Seumas again as well. Very sad to say goodbye to the Lindsays though.
