Jono's Travels
Leaving Budapest today and we head to Vienna, but along the way we will be stopping In Bratislava the capital of Slovakia for a walking tour and some lunch. We have a new driver today, seeing Ronnie is at two weeks since his last day off he has to have a mandatory 45 hour break. Ronnie coincidently isn't even allowed on the bus so will have to make his own way to meet us in Vienna. We arrived in Bratislava and I have to break the news to people who remember it from the movie Eurotrip (Look it up on YouTube), It's nothing like that at all, it's actually a rather pretty place, nice looking shops and buildings and the exchange rate isn't as good as it is in the movie so you can't live like a king on a dollar. We took a quick walking tour around the city and saw a few statues of different things, There was a statue of "Happy Ignaz" who use to give out roses to the girls and hugs to men to make them happy. They also had this one of a man in a manhole which they the called "The Watcher". They have had to put a sign by it saying "Man at Work" as apparently people kept driving over it. After our walking tour we headed off to do our own things of which most of us chose to have lunch. I chose a steak for lunch, intentionally asking for it to be rare as I know they don't cook it rare. It came out just the way I wanted, medium rare. After lunch a few of us went and grabbed some ice cream, I love the ice cream over here, their flavours are just so realistic, and they look really well presented too, not just a box of ice cream sitting there, but instead they make even the simplest flavour look tasty just by the way it's presented in the container. We then all got back to the coach and continued onto Vienna. Arriving in Vienna we took a driving tour around the city first to be shown a number of the sites worth visiting, so many sites that I know Vienna is one place I'll have to come back too. We made our way to one of the palaces and took an ever so quick look around, grabbed some photos and made our way to the hostel. Once again we are staying at a Wombats hostel, difference about this one is... They actually have wifi that works well. After checking in Tall Ryan, Meg, Damien, Lieu and I all headed into town to take a look around, I ended up buying some clothes at a local H&M, but it's was actually more the shoes I wanted, as places back home that sell shoes like the ones I want tend to charge 4 times the price. Hopefully I won't have gone over my luggage allowance, otherwise I'll need to do some creative packing. Before coming back to NZ. We made our way back to the hotel in time to meet everyone and then headed out for dinner at a nearby restaurant. This gave me a chance to sit down with the newer girls and try and get a handle on all their names, a bit tricker seeing there are two Julia's and two Olivia's at the same table. You would think having 2 people with the same name should make it easier and but when you have 2 other people with the same name, the problem becomes trying to remember which is Julia and which is Olivia. Tall Ryan's birthday tomorrow so we sung happy birthday to him and had some candles on a cake for him. From there we made our way to Prater Park, which is an amusement park in Vienna. Something that I never knew existed. It's free entry to the park and you just pay for your rides. Most of us made our way to one Sabrina suggested going to see first, I and no idea what it was called, but it took you up about 100 meters in the air and then just swung around. I snuck my camera on so I could get some pics from above, it had some great views and the sun was just setting. I moved on to one that looks like a snake, this one went around and around, in a big circular motion, but whiles that's going around, the chair you sit in also rotates around and around, I wish I had some pictures to post so you could see it, if I can get some I'll post some up. It's hard to explain, but if you have been to the Gold Coast and been on the Vomatron there, then this one is a similar one to that. Several rides later we ended up doing one which Sabrina likes, called The Extasy. This was a mistake, I think if I hadn't have gone on this ride I would have been fine with other rides, but this one screwed up a lot of us due to the type of spinning, it gave me a similar sick stomach feeling as the planes in Peru gave me when I flew over the Nazca lines. After this one I tried one more ride, but that didn't help my stomach at all, so I decided to head back to the hostel with everyone else. After arriving back at the hostel I went off to bed to try and sleep off my sick feeling stomach, only to be woken by the light flicking on at 12:05am and and few of the guys coming in to wish Tall Ryan a happy birthday. After that they took off and we continued to get some sleep.
