Jono's Travels
Our second to last trip travelling on the coach today as we head to Amsterdam, Netherlands. It seems hard to believe that it's already been 47 days together. Then again, we have had some new blood join this trip as its carried on. Early morning start and a few sore heads, some people still recovering from last night, and some people still drunk from last night. We said farewell to Conner today as he has decided to head off elsewhere instead of continuing on, we wish him the best of luck on the rest of his trip, I'm sure he will have fun. Our bus ride was pretty quiet most of the way for the morning, as lots of people needed sleep to recover from last night, but with 9 or so hours, there was plenty of time for this. We made a few stops along the way, but this was mainly for food or bathroom breaks along with Ronnie's compulsory stops. Our lunch break today is a make your own lunch, unfortunately though it's raining so we end up bringing the two tables into the bus and setting them on top of a row of seats. This does make for an interesting lunch as there wasn't really much room to move around. I ended up sitting down the back and enjoying the company Olivia, Vivian, Kaylea and Lauren as my seat was been used to rest the table on. We got to make wraps today, probably one of our favourite options for lunch as we get to choose how it tastes. We manage to snag out lunch in a pretty good time considering and we continue on our way to our first actual stop. A farm for a Cheese and Clogs demo just out of Amsterdam. We arrive at the farm late in the afternoon and as soon as we hope off the bus we could tell we were at a farm, I forgot how bad farms can smell. The guy doing today's tour of the Cheese and Clog place came out, he is also the owner and operator of the place, he's a very odd fellow, but seems to be able to work out where people are from and seems to be able to identify their personality types quite easily as he was able to work out some of the people's personality on the tour by just looking at them. He showed us quickly the process they use to make the cheese and he showed us the cheese he makes can last for a very long time, he had some aged cheese over 10 years old. By this stage however it's quite hard and better used for parmesan cheese. We then moved through from the cheese factory to the clog making factory. He showed us how he makes the clogs and asked our shoe size, apparently none of us know our shoe size as apparently it's measure by centimetres, not by size 6 or size 7 etc. I guess it makes more sense as its more accurate. The process for him to make the clogs was very quick, generally about 3 minutes, but that is a small size, I suppose that larger ones would take a bit longer, and then he still has to have the wood dry out and then paint them so there is still a bit more work involved in them. We had a little while to look around the gift shop and then made our way onto the coach before continuing onto Amsterdam. After arriving in Amsterdam we checked into our hostel, not the greatest looking of places, carpet worn on the stairs, a bit of an order in some of the hallways, but aim happy to overlook all that as they have the best wifi out of all the places we have been too, super fast, and it doesn't seem to drop out, well so far it hasn't. We got showered and changed for a night out and headed off on a walking tour into town. One of the instructions we were given to get home was to Turn left at Nee Zealand, as there was a Nee Zealand sign up on one of the corners, easy to remember for me. We checked out one of the squares and were shown all the H&Ms, and there were lots of them in one single street. From there we moved on to the Red Light district as a group, it's very weird seeing woman just standing in the windows as you walk past. Te weirdest part of this however is the fact that these areas a surrounded by churches, and some of the churches are even used to house the prostitutes. We all went off in groups and got something to eat, the fantastic five went to a little Asian place for dinner and then made our way back to a meeting point to met the rest of the group. After meeting at the assigned meeting group we headed off to a show. It's the kind of thing that people do when they are in Amsterdam. We got inside and as we were with Topdeck, we were given front row seats which is probably the worst spot to be as you know your going to get picked on. I ended up getting pulled up in the second act and had my shirt removed, but that's as far as I had to go thank goodness, a couple of others had to get up a different times as well throughout the night, but it gave everyone a great laugh. After leaving the show we headed off for drinks at a nearby bar. Drinks were consumed and people had a great night. I ended off heading off semi early, perhaps around 12:30 and came across a bakery. As dinner was only a smallish meal, and we had consumed a bit of alcohol, the bakery seemed like a great idea. I got a baguette with Ham, Cheese and Pineapple on it and it tasted fantastic, probably the best Ham, Cheese & Pineapple I have had in a very long time. I'll definitely need to remember where this place is for tomorrow night.
