Jono's Travels
Nice today... Seriously... That's where today's trip takes us, the place is called Nice (pronounced more like niece or Nis), I guess this place names itself. It was an early start this morning in Barcelona with the bus leaving from the hotel just a little after 7am. Most of the day spent travelling to Nice on the bus, so while we didn't get to do much site seeing today, we had a great chance to rest and play some on bus games. We had a trivia quiz, of which our team would have won had it just been based on the trivia quiz answers, but then there were bonus rounds which we failed, a little sad, but it's all about the fun and a way of killing time. One of the rounds was the "Heads up" game that Ellen DeGeneres created for her TV show. We ended up enjoying that so much that Imogen got out her phone afterwards and we started playing it most of the way to Nice. Nice is the firth most populated city in France with a population of about 1 million people. While that population is about a quarter of NZs population, it really doesn't seem like a huge amount of people. I can only assume that's because we are in such a small part of the town seeing Nice covers an area of about 721 square kms. Our first impressions of Nice are very good, we are located right in a great central part of Nice and the beautifully blue ocean beach is just a few minutes walk from where we are staying. We had a couple of hours free before we had to meet up for dinner so I decided I should take a walk around the place and see if I could find a couple of dress shirts, as I had only brought one with me as the rest I had already packed away in boxes at home. After walking the streets for about 20 minutes Connor and I decided we couldn't find anything so turned back on a different street, only to randomly find some clothing shops, funny how thing like that work out. I found this men's clothing shop down some small stairs and brought a couple of shirts, 1 for tomorrow night which will be used for Monaco to get into the casino. Afterward Connor and I headed back and took a walk though the park of Nice which was really nice, it had quite a large sculpture "Arc 115" essentially a large 115 degree Arc, as well as that one of the squares in the park is a series of fountains that shoots water up in the air and you can walk through them (something like the ones you see in the movies). We then got back and got ready for dinner, for dinner we headed to Le Ligure, not a bad place at all, There were a number of other Topdeck groups there, so I can only imagine how much that made tonight. The meat they cooks was so good, cooked to perfection, and the dessert was just as nice. Today was Olivia's 21st, so we all filled out a postcard with a little message each and the dessert came out with candles in it for her to blow out. After our scrumptious dessert we headed off to Wayne's Bar which has great music and allows you to dance on top of tables. It was a pretty full on night of table dancing, the place was packed due to 4 Topdeck tours being there, but was a good night and had a chance to say farewell to Nic and Matt. Now I'm not sure what time everyone got home, but at about 1:30 or so I decided I'd head back to the hostel and get an early evening.
