We got the train here all ok. there are quite a few classes on the trains. Standing, hard seats, soft seat, hard sleeper which has 6 bunks and no door and soft sleeper which has a door and 4 bunks. we tried to get hard seats as the journey is only 2 hours but they were sold out so we got the soft seats.
We got to our hostel ok and checked in, we are in the centre of nanjing so its not too far from the sights, sounds and smells of the city. Its really nice here and we went for a nice walk through all the alley ways where the markets are and came across a really strange stall selling pets we saw the cutest, dogs, cats, bunnys and one little piglet all for sale i dont know if they were for pets or for the main meal that evening!
Went to a nice looking restaurant tonight, when we got in there we got showed their english menu, it had some strange looking dishes such as duck blood soup and Duck heart we just had egg fried rice!
One of the main reasons i wanted to come here was i read in the guide book that in 1937 the Japenease invaded China and their plan was rape all, kill all and burn all in a short while they had killed almost 300,000 people and this was in the Nanjing region alone!!! it also said it had a really interesting musuem all about this part of their history. But when i asked the hostel about this they told me its closed for a year for refurbishments which was abit annoying because i think it would of been really interesting.
having a chilled out night tonight then off to Xian tomorrow to see terracota warriors (if thats still open) i hope we dont get stuck there for longer then we want because of the New years holiday.
Will let you know, let the China adventure continue...
