So, after 313 days for Jonny and 240 days for Hutch (as per the spreadsheet), the trip is over and we are finally back home! It's been a totally surreal few days being back in familiar surroundings again and overall the feelings have been a little bittersweet.
By the time it came around, we were ready to come home and in some ways we had been looking forward to getting back and seeing everyone again, although that didn't stop us considering pushing the flight back again whilst we were basking on the beach in Koh Chang!
But along with that was the realisation that it was all over - no more dodgy hostels with crap beds, no more language barriers where you just can't get a straight answer, no more sham tours, no more haggling, no more putting toilet paper in the bin, no more bus journeys or painful border crossings. None of the things that challenged us on a daily basis and which got us so frustrated - but which now we realise we are going to miss! We dealt with the challenges knowing that tomorrow we would do something new and fun.
It has been a phenomenal adventure that we have shared together, and also with the tons of people we have met along the way. Every single day has provided a new experience, something to look forward to and that we will never forget.
Looking back, it doesn't feel like everything we have done should belong in one lifetime, let alone one trip. It doesn't even feel like it was our lifetimes!! Did we really do all of those things in all of those places?! Memories feel so vivid they could be yesterday!
And then we arrive back in England, to cold weather and the London rush hour of the real world, and we want to get straight back on the plane!
On the blog home page the first sentance is some cheesy quote about the moments which take our breath away - well we have definately been successful on that front! From the Amazon Jungle in Brazil in our hammocks, right through to the last nights sleep in a nice hotel on Bangkoks Khao San road, every step of the way has given us something to cherish and remember, and now is time for a bit of reflection!
Until the next adventure.....(which, after being at work for less than a week, makes us think may be sooner than expected!)
