So we arrived in Foz do Iguacu on the Brazilian side of the falls on Wednesday morning after finally seeing some sun in Rio on our last day, albeit from the inside of the bus!! We didn't have much luck in Rio that's for sure! Thankfully the good weather followed us and after meeting Gaz from work at the hostel we spent the rest of the day, as well as Thursday, just relaxing with some beers by the pool, as well as taking mucho siesta time to make up for the lack of sleep due to the worlds worst mattress!
Then on Friday we went and did the half day on the Brazilian falls, which provides the grand overview. I had forgotten just how amazing the falls are and it was brilliant having the 9 (meaning at least 9 photos at every stop - the locals were noooo happy with us!) of us just walking from one viewpoint to the next along the trail, especially the panoramic shots from the top of Devils Throat and getting absolutely drenched walking over the footbridge across it!
A thwarted attempt to take a helicopter ride (too expensive) over the falls didn't take away from a great time, and then we crossed the border into Argentina, despite Robbo confidently proclaiming we were now in Venezuela!!
Our hostel in Puerto Iguacu was more like a mini resort and had a really nice pool out the front which we wasted no time in getting involved in, and then enjoyed a few bottles of cheap red wine in the evening - a welcome change from the hangover-inducing caiprinhas in Brazil!
Saturday was then a full day spent on the Argentinean side of the falls, and was one of the best days of the trip so far. Four and a half years ago I had promised myself that I would return and do this again, since my visit to this side that time had been slightly spoilt by a massive storm. It was a bit surreal coming back, but the awesome sights from right up close to the falls were all brilliant! We even did a boat ride that took us right into the waterfall... Which sounds like madness (and it pretty much was- we all got absolutely drenched) but it was so much fun it was like being on a theme park ride! Luckily the sun was shining so it didn't take long to dry off (though Sowers' walking boots were still squelching 5 hrs later).
After a brilliant day on Saturday and a few drinks that night, we chilled out by the pool again for most of the day on Sunday and then did our last bus jouney together to BA!
