Angkor WHAT? Became the phrase of the day as we desended to the famous temples at 5.30am so that we could watch the sunrise. We went first to Angkor Wot temple- the largest of them all and, I don;t know if it was because of the sunrise, or the excitement or that we were weren't quite dying of heat at this point, but it was magnificant. Mind blowing even. Jon and I are still trying to decide if it just beats the Great Wall or not- thats how awesome it was! We had a lovely and very knowledgeable tour guide with us for the day, who let us wander by ourselves or listen to all the information he gave us. Lots of pictures and one breakfast overlooking the temple later and we were off to number two. Thom temple- a lot smaller in comparision but still massive. Elephants roamed around the outside which was wicked- we didn't go on one, chosing instead to explore by foot. This temple was not in as good a shape as Angkor Wot which actually made it a little more fun to explore, scrambling over the ruins and trying to hide in patches of shade to escape the sun which gave a whole new meaning to the word HOT! After that it was off to Tomb Raider Temple- i forget its real name but it was, quite clearly, the temple where they filmed Tomb Raider! It was soooo much fun. I reacted a scene from the film (which incidently I have never seen, but I improvised) and will be showing a screening of it upon our return! The temple was full of nooks and cranies which made play fighting and hiding much fun. To get to the temple you had to rek through jungle which was great if you didn;t look down and get freaked out by the giant red ants itching to crawl all over your feet! After lunch we drove 30K out of the centre to a small temple- would have been amazing on any other day but when compared to Angkor and Tomb Raider it paled in to comparison. So after a quick stop for hacky sack and a look at the land mines museum we ended our day at sunset temple. it was a steep climb up to the top but totally worth it. The sunset was AMAZING: as George would say, the best EVER. A truely wicked day had by all.
