European Adventure 2017
Finally two weeks after our adventure began the Fabulous
Four and the Terrific Two became the Sensational Six! After leaving Baildon Moor we headed for the
Sheffield branch of Marquis for some more minor attention to the motorhome and
were greeted by the heaviest rain we had seen in many a year. It was so heavy that the guttering couldn’t
cope and it just poured down the windows.
Ryan met us there and when he got out if his car to walk to reception he
had to wade through a puddle which was halfway up his calves! From there we headed east to Norfolk and more
rain along the way. It seemed to
intensify and along with thunder, lightning and hail made for an interesting
ride. At one stage we had to pull over
on the M1 as we just simply could not see!
It was the heaviest rain we think we have ever seen and at times if we
went through a puddle it shot up the vehicle, hit the little bit of a canopy
overhanging the front window and just poured back down over the windscreen.
About an hour later and we were in brilliant sunshine, the
roads were dry and the temperature had risen to 26degrees! The others were waiting for us at Sandringham
Estate Caravan Park and there was much excitement as we finally all got
together for the first time. So many stories to swap, photos to show, it was a
great night!
Today dawned a gorgeous cloudless and hot day as we headed
off to Sandringham House to have a look around.
What an amazing place, beautiful grounds – 7000acres of them! We spent a couple of hours there admiring the
cars in the museum, the house itself and then the church where the Queen and
her family go every Christmas.
After that we headed further up the coast to a beach at Holkham
and took a long walk out to the sea. It
must have been low tide as it took ages to walk across the flats to get there
but it was worth it. So lovely and warm
after the initial toe dipping. We know
that things are often done differently over here but it was a bit of a surprise
to see a couple in deck chairs sitting facing the sand dunes with the sea
behind them!
Charlie and Mandy were relaying a chat they had with a
fellow motorhome owner who asked them if they had mastered the wave to other
motorhome drivers. They said they had
and that they always waved at them. The
chap then said they would always get a wave from other drivers except those
driving motorhomes with twin axles….they are in a different class!
