Today's ride starts from Eucla through to Ceduna. One issue is that the distance is 500 ks and we lose a couple of hours by heading into the Eastern Time zone of SA. We had a light breakfast at the motel restaurant and proceeded to our first stop to Nullarbor Roadhouse. The wind was coming off the coastline and our economy diminished as I watched our distance to empty reduce from 4.5 litres per 100 to 7 litres per 100 klm. We were going to fuel up at Nullarbor as well just to make sure we get there. The temp was 18 degrees but still was nice riding weather.
The cliffs were immediately to our right and the view is spectacular. We reach the roadhouse which is fairly typical of all the roadhouses here. Overpriced fuel, same food and same articles to buy.
We left after ½ an hour and headed to the cliffs on the bight. They are spectacular and we took heaps of pictures. Then back into the wind again which is relentless. We head to Yalata which turns out to be entertaining with the locals. Stop for 5 minutes then head off again. Now we are heading to Penong. This is some 70 ks further down the road. Starts off OK but I ended up needing an urgent attendance at a porcelain based venue. There is absolutely nothing between where we are and Penong so I need to pick up the pace. At the 40 k mark it got more urgent so I was fairly cracking by this time. I finally arrived at the Penong roadhouse and found an empty cubicle and the day just got a whole lot better.
Back on the bike and feeling much better we continued the last run into Ceduna. We booked into the Big 4 Park there and they were very welcoming. John and Shirl went the cabin and I got a little grass site nearby. As I set up the tent I was talking to guy in a cabin a few metres away. His name was Werner and he was from Switzerland. He was riding a big black Harley. Initially I thought he was a wanna be tourer and not a seasoned vet like me. Then he told me his travel history and |I learned that I was the novice and he was the vet. He has travelled by bike through Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He has done a lap of Australia some years ago and decided he wanted to travel the world on this big full dresser Harley. He had a registered website and called himself Black Eagle. He has documented his entire travels in English and German. He started travelling two years ago and left behind his Real Estate Brokerage whilst he did so. He had contacted HD in the US and they sponsor all his Harley stuff basically. He is invited to the US as part of his tour where he will go to the factory. So Black Eagle isn't such a big w*** now. Johny will now be known as "Silver Buffalo" and I have chosen "Blue Bison" for my handle. He has invited me to visit him in Switzerland and maybe do a Europe ride with him. He has all the ins and outs for shipping etc so can make it easy. Mmm future thought maybe.
We went out for dinner to the Ceduna Beachside Hotel located down near the pier (Or jetty for WA people) The place is huge and we were here on our Canning trip last year. We all had a different meal and they were exquisite. In fact would rate the best food on the trip apart from our WA restaurant meals. We left nothing on our plates and ravaged the salad bar a couple of times. Definitely a big recommendation when in Ceduna.
Back at the Park I had to run some stuff through the washing machine just to get me home and then hit the sack. Tomorrow's destination id Port Augusta which is 480 ks.

George Hey Blue Basin Don't forget to stop and pay tribute to the big stoned farmer east of Ceduna.
