Today we are off driving around the local area of Fiskardo. Our first stop is 40 minutes away it’s name is Myrtos beach. From the top of the mountain it looks sensational. The colour of the water against the colour of the sky and the landscapes amazing. From up here the beach looks like it is like any Aussie beach, pure white sand beckoning you to join it. Alas this is to get you in, as a closer look where you’re up close shows the trickery that distance can hide. It is like most Greek beaches, stoney.
Doesn’t matter, I’m in and the water is crystal clear, refreshing and beautiful. We stay about 1.5 hrs, then decide to go back to Divarata which is 4ks from the beach. There’s not much happening here but we do find a nice cafe. We stay for coffee, then lunch and the tradition but this time a chilled red. It was a smart choice as we also picked up some goodies to take home.
Our next place to explore is Assos, founded under Venetian rule and as we know that where ever the Venetian or Romans went they would build a wall or a castle, this town has both. Again it a long twisting drive to get there but it’s worth the trouble . Assos is a small village situated on a wind protected bay. Today it had a few yachts nestled in which really set it off. There are shops and restaurant aplenty and of course there is a small stoney beach. Again the water has that aqua blueness to it and the temperature is refreshing so I am in again and now that the sun is cooking the shore Shirley is too. We stayed here near on 3hrs and will probably go back tomorrow.
Home now to sit on our balcony, sip some wine, look at the view. Hold the phone there a sign to another beach really close to home, let’s go. 2ks down this very winding road, 800 metres down this goat track and there at the end a 40 metre wide stoney beach with nothing else to offer, disappointed. We will not be going back unless we want to swim in the nude and I can see that happening, can you?br />
Ok enough is enough, wine and balcony time. We decided to change from our Greek diet and try some good old fashion Thai which has a very good reputation and so it should. The food was outstanding. The pictures probably don’t do it justice.
Well it time for bed ,my eyes are telling me to let them shut as they’ve been open since 3am. See you all in the next blog, which there are not many to go.
Love to all
Shirley and John
