This blog covers the second and third day. The second day in Gaios we decide to take easy . We have a late breaky and lounge around and we hit the pavement at 10ish. We do the shopping find a couple nice looking restaurants then wonder around taking photos and just downright relaxing. We rent a car for the third day ,buy a freshly made Greek salad for lunch, by this time we have covered just about all the area of Gaios. It now back to the villa for lunch, reading and more relaxing by the pool.
Tired from so much relaxed we decide to walk back to town for a well earn drink, who would of thought that relaxing could make one so dry. We wonder along the waterfront and check out the cafes and we find one that sell cocktails. Shirley decides to have a strawberry daiquiri, of course there is a photo. We sit and people watch for an hour then move on for dinner. We go to a restaurant called George’s corner. This amount time of travel and Shirley is in dire need of some lamb chop and they have them . We order thinking that there would be two chops but there were 6 and I had ordered pork . If we known before what we could see before our eyes we would’ve shared. Didn’t matter we had some Greek salads over we just added the chops and we had a beautiful Greek style lunch for our drive adventure.
Third day arrives and there is a sense of uncertainty as the car driving in other hols has not gone so well to put it lightly. Breakfast at 9, packed towels, food.sunscreen and anything else that is needed. The roads are are as wide as two of our Australian footpaths join together, so speed will not be my problem through the township. Outside of town the road does widen and allows for a freer driving with much less tension. We are doing our best to drive around the island. The first place on our list Loggos is about half way. Things seem to be going ok ,we’re following the map ,and the signs, we turn right at the sign to Loggos and fifteen minutes later we are back in Gaios. Start again. Up the hill but this time we turn left and it works. We arrive in Loggos and it is much smaller then where we are staying but is similar , we walk around have coffee then off to the next major town Lakka.
This is bigger but still not as big as Gaios, walk around ,take pictures and find out there are what the locals call sandy beaches at the other end of the island.
So back in the car and off we set to find these sandy beaches as most of the beaches are pebbled. We make it back to Gaios and we ask direction from the locals , this is what they said, stay on this road do not turn off it for any reason. We did that and fifteen minutes later we find what we believe is a different town near the sandy beaches. Shirley hops out and ask the question and the man says to her you are here in Gaios , Shirley say no we are at the sandy beaches The again say no you on the edge of Gaios, Shirley says we just drove from Gaios ,the man says, well you are back now.
We’re over it for now. Back to the villa to enjoy our Greek salad, chops and white wine. After lunch we attack this again and this time we turn to the left and it comes up a winner.again the narrow twisting road but at the end there was some joy. Yes we found the beaches but it was dirty sand dirty water, so no swimming here. We go back to Gaios beaches and I dive in dispute the rocks.
Back to the villa to relax and swim in the pool. This passes the afternoon and now I’m really dry from all the relaxing. We shower and dress and go looking for a pina colada cocktail . We sit and people watch and now it is our dinner time
Shirley has pick a restaurant know as Genesis . This is possibly the best restaurant we have eaten in so far. We had Vegetables stack, sea bass on vegetable risotto and Loukoumades ( Greek Donuts). This restaurant would compete with a lot of our fine dinning restaurant.
Well that all for those two day ,tomorrow is a all day travel day, so we will see you in the next blog.
Love you all ,
Shirley and John
