The day began at 6.30am our hope to see lions cheetahs and leopards. Our driver is not as good as other we have had and the fact that you must stay on the tracks that are prepared plus the fact that Serengeti is just so dam big, makes it hard to be at the right spot at the right time.
The first two hrs of the morning safari were terrible, hardly saw any Animals or birds.
All we look at was acres of open plains or scrub,so a 8.00 am we decided to have our picnic breakfast ,in the Serengeti ,just the three of us ,on a hill with 360 degree view of the above.
Breakfast over we started to search for the big five, but the first animal we spied was an hyena running down the track 200meters in front . We caught up to and from another direction came 2 more so we took some photos just incase we saw nothing else.Next thing we came across was a hippo pond ,there must have been 40of them ,they just squeeze up really close together and then they look just like boulders in the middle of the pond. We then capture the shot of the day ,a rare bird that use the hot air , it is called a balloon bird.
Baboons are plentiful in Africa so it not strange to see them in trees ,walking in groups , monkeys are the same ,and one of our favourites is the black face type.
There was still nothing exciting happening,as Shirley would say,"boring,"then Simon spotted a group of jeeps ,off we went and there cuddled up on a branch of a tree was this beautiful gold black and white leopard, with our binoculars we could make out it was a leopard my camera brought it even better,at last the elusive leopard could ticked off the list
Off we drove in search of what ever we could find ,our driver was not shooting to well so I pointed out some jeeps and asked if we could. Check it out ,how glad were we that we did . We had come across a lion pride, the went very active but we could get some good shot. Suddenly out of nowhere a huge lioness stood stretch herself and start down the rock toward us.she was coming to move the early morning . This seemed to bring the whole pride to life and popping up everywhere,. loins cubs and older cubs, the four youngest cubs wanted to follow mum but a quick growl and back they went to their hiding space but the photos we got in that time were great. The lion continued on now ,her aim to move the kill into a shady area ,she grabbed the zebra by the throat and with its body between her legs dragged the kill over the rock and into a very shady spot . She was totally exhausted.
The afternoon session was poor compared to earlier we saw the same as on other safari.
Home to base camp for dinner ,buffet style meal, very nice . Shirley has made friends with this woman from holland ,her name in short is Kim, they have really hit off.
After dinner the lodge put on cultural show. This one had something different an acrobatic show. These guy were powerful strong ,and could tumble ,balance and many other acrobatic thing .a great pend to a long and partly successful day.
Well that's all for now,
Luv Shirley & John
