Day 28 25/9/2018
Here we are in Athens
We arrived in Athens last Tuesday afternoon ,made our way to our hotel Herodion, we are in a room with a view of the Parthenon , truly unbelievable. We settle in ,all about 5minutes ,and my tour guide suggest we do a reconnaissance mission, let’s see where the metro is ,the eateries are, atm and a lot of others . The final stop is a small local eatery run by man ,his mother and relations. Here we see the authentic Greek food being prepare as we wait , and we get our meals you can taste the love in them , and excellent way to start our tour of Athens.
Next morning we have to be at certain stop by 8.30 , get direction from the hotel ,takes all of 5 and now we are going on a walking tour of the acropolis and the Parthenon. This dates back over 2000 years and the funny thing is it has been built and destroyed in that by either of the following, the Greek ,the Romans, the Persian and other , the Parthenon has been rebuilt 3times ,the last time it was damage they actually blow the roof off. We move now to another area that has more ruins but a few more are still completely in tacked so we marvel at the size and wonder how did they move these gigantic stones . We look through the Acropolis Museum, itself is a modern work engineering construction.
Home to rest and set our selves for what lies ahead or so we thought . We get email to tell us that all ferries are cancelled and we can’t travel to Mykonos tomorrow and the same problem the next day. We have to arrange accommodation for Thursday night , book a flight for Friday morning, all add extras but we succeeded now we can relax again.
We rest and then prepare to eat at this suggest Restaurant The Balcony ,it online , take look at the menu. We had the scallop starter, then for our main we had risotto with chard cream source and kale, the other was slow cooked land with gnocchi and spinach. One word spring to mind to describe all of these heavenly. They were delicious , the flavours to die for ,thus we were in food heaven. We like it that much we booked again for Thursday night check out the photos they actually show the beauty and if you allow your imagination to run free you will get a sniff of the aromas we got. So tomorrow is another day and we have just a few thing to discover so the blog maybe about the food.
