Day 28 27/9/2018
The extra day in Athens
Today is not a planed day , we have lost a day in Mykonos due to strong winds stopping ferries from leaving the port. We had to go to new accommodation which is just a 10 minute walk from where we were. Tomorrow we fly to Mykonos, but for now its all head full exploring some other parts of Athens.
The first place we are looking for is the botanical gardens ,so off we set with some direction from our apartment director , we been walking a few minutes when Shirley ask for the map, yeah it’s in my backpack, oh no I have left on the table , so now we are doing as the true explorer do ,just following our noses, and it seems to work, we find the gardens, the palace, the president residents ,the entertainment centre, the Olympic stadium built in 1827 and we saw the changing of the guard which was a sight to see and worth the walking we had done.
We make our way back to the apartment weary from our exploring and rest to prepare for our dinner at the Balcony Restaurant again. We arrive and the restaurant has entire new staff so it like starting all over again. We tell the first person to greet us we have a booking , he looks but can’t find , this is the funny part , I thought the man from the night before name was Alex and he thought my name was Alex, so when I asked for the booking for John they couldn’t find it.we had three beautiful entrees the 1st was Athenian salad ,made of crab , fish, pistachios and finely chopped salad. The 2nd was the scallop with lime foam and peas and corn salsa. The 3rd was a baked octopus and lentil, again our taste buds were sing more ,more , so we had an authentic Greek dessert lemon syrup with mastic cream and powdered meringue.
Getting excited about the big dance on Sunday ,for you Mick I hope Roosters win.
See you all in the next blog,
Love Shirley and John.
