Waking today in Florence we had an early start to commence our visit to the city. After a quick breakfast we then headed out to join our 'Nude & Food' tour run by Foodies for Florence. First stop was the Accademia di Belle Arti to view some sculpture by Michelangelo including the statue of David.
Our guide, Natalie was very passionate about the statue and its place in Florence history and she showed us a couple of things about the statue that we would not have been seen without her guidance. One such thing was the graffiti that had been applied to the statue the day it was to be relocated.
After viewing the statue and a couple of other sculptures by Michelangelo we headed onto the food part of the tour. This part of the tour was heaven. We had a traditional Florence breakfast of cappuccino and pastry. This was followed by a visit to the central market to sample more food. Firstly we had a boiled beef roll with red sauce. This was delicious. We then followed this up with tasting balsamic vinegars, olive oils, pesto, truffles, cheese and creamy deserts.
Following this we headed out of the markets to enjoy our wine, cheese and meat picnic including tasting grappa spray. This was also wonderful. The final stop on this food odyssey was the sampling of nine different flavours of gelato. Again the flavours were wonderful.
Following such a gastronomical delight we needed to rest up before we ventured out again. After a quiet afternoon catching up on some maintenance we again went in search of food, this time at a local restaurant that was recommended during the morning tour. Dinner was very nice but not quite into our dinner the night before. Following dinner we walked around the city to burn off some of dinner before retiring to our room (which needs a post on its own) for the evening.
Tomorrow we will spend further exploring the city before our evening train journey to Rome.
The Internet has been playing up so I haven't posted al of the photos I wanted to, but I will add them.
