Last night we did something I have wanted to do for years and which, if I hadn't have done it, was very unlikely that the chance would come again. We went to see Ken Dodd. He was on at the Pavillion in Bournemouth, and believe me it was quite an experience.
Martyn and Jan drove us down to Bournemouth and I treated us all to a nice meal in the Slug and Lettuce before the show which started at 7:00. We had a bit of an episode before the show because I had thought it was on in the International Centre and when we got there there were huge queues of teenage ravers. I joined the queue behind a couple of girls in micro skirts with Emu and Orville wrapped round their legs (I really am getting old) I thought it must be a little like the Rolf Harris revival at Glastonbury a few years ago and chose to ignore the odd looks I was getting from the ravers. In the meantime Mandy asked a security guard if the queues were for Ken Dodd and he said "No!" it was for an all night disco rave sort of thing So Mandy Jan and Martyn hurridly dragged me away from the miniskirts to the much more sedate Pavilion where the only risk was getting tangled up in the zimmer frames! Phew, Lucky Escape there then!
Anyway, Ken Dodd was brilliant. The show started at 7:00 and he didnt finish till 12:30. I dont know how he does it, he's over 80 now and although he did loose his way a little once or twice he is still amazingly professional and bursting with good old fashioned humor.... Brilliant Anyway thats the first time for ages me and Mandy have come back home later than the boys!
