Ate breakfast at the Cadillac Diner. Started with protein of course.
Had to be on the dock at Kaua'i, town is Nawiliwili.on the SE coast. Our tour was fantastic. It started with a bus ride up the coast hearing stories about early Polynesians who arrived around 300 AD. The could traverse thousands of miles over the Pacific Ocean and find their way home. At that time most Europeans thought the world was flat. Our first stop was to a waterfall.
Our next stop was to a rain forest where we saw banana plants and all kinds of flowers. It rains about 400 inches a year on the windward side, but only 20 on the leeward side. We boarded a boat to go up the longest navigatable river in Hawaii. Wailua River & were seranaded by Hawaiian singers and dancers.
We did not know that the tour included lunch. Nice surprise. They served a buffet with chicken, pork, and fish, & included fruit and veggie salads. One highlight was a cornbread type dessert made with pineapple. We were inside but it seemed as if we were outside with water flowing thru the restaurant.
After filling up we headed for the Waimea Canyon, often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Wow! What a view. Connor bought dragon fruit for $5(Pop paid). It was red and tasted like watermelon and kiwi. Connor wolfed most of it down, but he did share some. He offered a piece to Nui, our driver.
On the way back we stopped at a coffee plantation for some samples. I think the 4 $4.95 for 12 ounces at Trader Joe's is better. We heard more stories about early Hawaii, especially Captain Cook.
Got back about 5:30 & by 5:45 Connor was in the pool. Nan went to the gym for 30 minutes while Pop watched Connor, then they switched.
Dinner was at the buffet on the back deck. Great weather & view.
Returned to room 7520, showered & got ready for tomorrow's kayaking trip.
