Dubbo. The night visit to the observatory was a vast improvement although the meal was average. We spent an hour with the chap with a laser pointing out the night sky and then looking through the telescope. The highlight was seeing Saturn with it's rings very clear.Have spent 3 nights in Dubbo because there was so much to do here. The Western plains zoo is fantastic and the ticket covers you for two days so we didn't get zoo overload trying to do it in 1 day.The Dubbo goal is also well worth a visit and it's amazing to think that it was still in use until 1966 without much improvement in the conditions.Dubbo boasts a bakery which has twice won the best pie in Australia contest and they are delicious but that will have to be the pie of the trip as I can hear all you cardiac people and dieters throwing your hands up in horror and I confess we both suffered heartburn but they were good.Tomorrow we leave here and make our way to CanberraWe shall miss the historic apology to the Aboriginal people which is on Weds. But we thought the place would be crowded and accommodation might be difficult. We shall stop off at Cowra which has a Japanese prisoner of war museum .Monday the 11th. Was our 44th wedding anniversary.Forty four years ago who would have imagined we would spend our anniv. In a caravan in Australia well Joe might have but I certainly didn't..We are under attack by dozens of tiny flying insects which have somehow got into the van Some are even on the computer keyboard.Weather warming up. See you in Canberra.
