Well we have made it to Cuba safe and sound!
First stop was Guanabo - a tiny town just East of Havana where there was nothing much to do but lie on the beach - Joe coped ok with that. It was a bit of a culture shock for us - the whole 'dual economy' thing is unfathomable, nothing has a sign on it to tell you what it is or what it sells, Madeleine's Spanish is being tested to it's limit (which, let's face it, was never much) and it's about a million degrees from 7 in the morning till 8 at night. But, like I say, a couple of days on a wonderful sandy beach has made things easier!
Joe has made friends with the locals - two crabs that live in a gutter, 3 cats that seem to live on our balcony and sand crabs that live on the beach. She's also found her dream home - a seafront apartment in complete disrepair. We've also sampled some of the local cuisine - I was a little shocked to see 'Perro' on the menu, but soon realised this meant 'hotdog' rather than just 'dog'. However, having sampled said hotdog I'm not convinced it wasn't dog! But for just under a quid for dinner for the two of us I'm not sure we can complain.
We are now in a town called Matanzas - not seen much of it yet but it has an internet connection so it's one up on Guanabo.
That's it from us for now, having just spend 5 minutes uploading one photo for this blog (which resulted in an error, so you have an offexploring library picture to look at) we aren't going to update the photo album right now, but will do it as soon as we find a decent connection.
