My last travel blog entry.....I am sure some of you will be very relieved to hear that!!!
I got back from my Eastern Trekker tour yesterday and fly home tonight.
The tour was excellent. I think I have already covered what happened up till Krakow so I'll pick up from there. Our next stop was Zakopane in Poland. This is a snow sport town in the Tatra Mountains and reminded me alot of queenstown (minus the lake). The people were all very friendly and the town was packed with markets so I had a ball looking around! We went for a walk up Mount Morski Oko which I had imagined to be quite peaceful....didn't really turn out that way. There were thousands of people doing the same walk and because of the high amount of foot traffic the 10km uphill path has actually been tarsealed! Was still a fun and beautiful walk all the same. The next day we travelled through Slovakia to Budapest. Slovakia is a very green and hilly country with much evidence of its communist history clearly visible. On most lamp posts there were speakers from when communist propaganda and marching music was played to towns. Budapest was very hot and while it had good shopping and lots of history it wasn't one of my favourite places...but I'm not really sure why, something didn't endear it to me all that much! From Hungary we drove into Eastern Croatia which was incredibly hot for the first day when our bus's air conditioning unit conveniently ran out of gas! So that was a long, hot hold up as we got it refilled. Once back on the road the weather actually got quite cold and stayed cool and stormy the entire time I was there. (I think this may have been a blessing though) We stayed in the Plitvice National Park area and then looked through it the next morning. Truly beautiful. Such green trees and the most amazing blue lakes all interconnected by streams and waterfalls. Once again packed with tourists though! After that we headed west to the coast where the landscape changed dramatically to become very dry infertile and rocky. Stayed in Split which is a funky beachside town with a mix of the very old (ancient roman buildings) to the very new. Loved Croatia, the landscape, food and people were all fantastic.
So I have had a great time travelling and now its time to go home for the next chapter of my life. Wedding planning!!! :)
THE END!!!
