Just a quick update as we haven't done too much the last few days since leaving La Paz. The next stop was Copacabana (Bolivian, not the Brazil one), on the edge of Lake Titicaca, the largest high-altitude lake in the world. Copacabana is a nice little town on the edge of the lake surrounded by mountains….it is very tourist ready and full of little café's etc. We spent a couple of days here wandering round to a few Inca ruins, and also climbing the mountain (as recommended by lonely planet to see the sunrise). What the lonely planet fail to mention was how bloody difficult this climb would be…..we are really not getting any better with this altitude lark! After a 30min climb with our hearts beating through our chest and hardly being able to breathe, we made it to the top to take a few snaps of the sunset.
The next day we took a boat trip to visit "isle del Sol" (the sun island), the legendary Inca creation site and the birthplace of the Sun in Inca mythology. Our boat first stopped off at another island, Isle de Luna, where we were told we would have 2 hours to explore the Inca site. When getting off the boat we checked with the driver what time we needed to be back and he said (from what we could interpret in Spanish) 12.20. Sooooooo, after trekking on the island, again struggling with the altitude hill climbs, we were walking back towards the boat, at around 12.10…..we could see from afar that people were already aboard. Then we could see that the boat was starting to slowly drift away from the dock…..leaving early, minus 2 passengers!!!!. We began waving at the boat and the other clever passengers decided to just wave back and not inform the driver that they had left two people behind. So stuck on the isle de luna, where all the people are indigenous and hardly speak Spanish let alone English. Via the medium of sign language we managed to translate to a lady that we had been left behind and she arranged for her husband to take us on his boat across to our intended destination, Isle del Sol…..150 bolivianos later. Anywho, we made it to the island…after all the hassle of actually getting there we could not be arsed to walk any further to explore the island's Inca ruins, so we checked into a hostel, had some lunch and chilled out in the sunshine for the rest of the day.
The next day we caught the bus to cross the border into Peru
