You would think 9 hours preparation, sitting round the hostel all day waiting for the bus would give you enough time to get the bus you had booked…….HOWEVER! Prepared as we were, we took the 15 minute taxi ride to Buenos Aires bus station at quarter past 6 to make it in time for our bus at 7pm. As mentioned in the previous update…..Argentinian roads did not disappoint. If you was asking me (Lewis) then I'd tell you that this was the only day in the year that the Argentinians decided to close the most important road between us and getting our bus on time…….but that's if you were asking me! Eagerly watching the clock and trying to explain to the taxi driver that we had a bus to catch, every side road was chocker block. Every driver also feels that it's necessary to bib the horn as this will obviously make the other drivers who are also stuck in traffic move! Eventually we arrived at the bus station, albeit 5 minutes late. Linford Christie a.k.a Jodie left me a.k.a donkey with all the bags as she ran through the bus station to the platforms……ALL 78 OF THEM! I'm pretty sure that the bus we intended to get was wheeling away, yes we had missed it! Another 720 pesos later we were on the next bus to Iguassu Falls……..as planned!
The Iguazu falls - the world's most amazing waterfalls - were everything you would imagine…..AMAZING! They stretch almost 3km long and 70m high. The power, size and sheer noise of the falls have to be experienced to be believed. Getting up close to the Garganta del Diablo (devil's throat) is unreal…..can't quite get our heads round how that amount of water can continuously flow over the waterfalls! The pictures don't do it justice. We spent the day walking round various trails taking you to different angles of the falls. Lewis a.k.a Dr Doolittle became one with nature feeding the local anteaters and birds. I on the other hand was not and got my comeuppance by being pooped on, great! (see photo). All in all, a very good day (minus the poo incident!)….definitely one of the best things so far on the trip!
Another 19 hour bus journey (which we WILL make this time)……..next stop Brazil!
Apparently Brazils version of "that's my cup of tea" is "that's my beach"………we don't care who's beach it is, as long as we can use it…….
Let's hope we learn more Portuguese than we did Spanish!
