Killing Fields and S-21...

So we've done it.. and it was just as depressing as we had been told. If not more! I didnt take any pictures as i felt it might have been a bit dis-respectful plus it would never protray the true extent of what we saw!

Killing fields.. what do i say really... the first thing u come to when u enter is a huge tower which houses thousands of human skulls. now i thought i would be ok with all of this but seeing the amount of them and imagining them as living human beings makes you think. especially when u realise that this only happen 30years ago and many of the skulls would have been be in full time work, being doctors lawyers etc! the actual fields were just a mass of big holes in the ground! but when u realise that each of these holes held at least 400 people at a time it makes u wonder, especially when i can see at least 20!

S-21.. this was a school before it was turned into a prison.. where hundreds of people were held till they got taken to the killing fields to be killed! this really did strike a nerve, especially when u climb the stairs and your reminded of your school! the class rooms had long gone in favour of cell.. there was thousands of pictures of the prisoners ranging from the old, to kids who really cant have done anything wrong at all. it makes u think how these people got away with it! and though what do they think they would achieve! the look on the kids faces some that had to be less than 7years old was one of puzzlement. they didnt know their crime, and i also struggled to see! it really was hard

Even though it has been a heart renching day its been worth it. and im glad we went too see why this country is still trying its best to find its feet. its part of cambodian history!

Also we turned down the chance to go to a famous shooting range which allows you to fire everything from a pistol to machine guns could have been fun although there have been reports of kidnapping backpackers from there so we decided to give it a miss! though firing an ak-47 would be great fun!!!
