Egypt was fantastic - you'd love it. Very hot - 45 degrees (112F) under the awning on the sun deck one day - but at least we had an air conditioned cabin. The temples were awesome and the cruise down the Nile so peaceful and quiet. People in our party were friendly and good fun which helped and the booze was cheap! Seems like an age ago now even though it is really only 3 weeks.
Have just booked show tickets for your mum and me at the Edinburgh Fringe - expect it to be quite hectic but looking forward to it now.
Just over a week now 'til you see your mum in HK - expect it will be quite tearful but I'm sure you will have lots to talk about - love to be a fly on the wall then when you two get going!!

Hi Joanna - getting almost daily updates from your ma! If medicine turns out not to be your thing, you can always apply to the lonely planet as a reviewer - you are so honest, no flannel there, if a place is rubbish, say it like it is - after all you're from Yorkshire! However, I'm biased in favour of medicine - even if you are not going into the best speciality!
Hope you enjoy China, yet another culture! Then HK which is different again. Then you'll be back and it only seems like last week that you left!
