Whitneys on Tour
We left Jaisalmer early on 17th and headed back towards Jodphur passing through a pretty unpleasant sandstorm in the desert. After having lunch in Jodphur we headed towards the remote village of Chandelao where we stayed at a lovely heritage hotel.
The village here had a population of only around 2,000 people who weren't used to seeing tourists. This meant that we could at least walk around without the hassle of beggars and people trying to sell you things! The village childeren in particular were very sweet and joined us for a game of cricket in the hotel grounds. Pretty mean bowlers a couple of them were too.
The next morning we headed for the holy city of Pushkar, around 4 hours away. Meat, eggs and tragically alcohol are banned here but the pleasant views of the mountains, the town monkets and the holy lake just about made up for it. On our 2nd day here Jo (but certainly NOT Stuart) got up at 4.45am to walk up one of the mountains for sunrise and to see the temple on the top. Pushkar is an interesting place although there are a number of hippyish tourists here who are apparantly Israilies, who have come here to 'relax' after 3 years military training. We could have done without the constant power cuts too, especially when you're trying to watch the cricket on TV!
Our Nepal prospects are becoming more and more unclear with reports of an ever worsening situation there. We are continuing to monitor the news and cancelling or at least postponing this part of our trip is a distinct possibility now. Much depends on what our tour companies do.
