Jo's Most Excellent Adventure
Hi folks, just to let you know what I've been up to in my crazy crazy life...welll actually nothing particularly crazy at the moment, (though am considering doing some bungee jumping? What's the verdict YES or NO? bear in mind that I will probably do it anyway) Basically I've been suffering from a bit of Bangkok Belly, not so fun and meant that the two days I'd set aside after the concert for sightseeing basically were spent throwing up in a toilet. Lush. Also got completely scammed by a taxi driver who when asked to take me to Bangkok Palace took me on a 2hr tour of Bangkok in rush hour....so I did my first ever runner from a taxi! Am now complete rebel....ho ho!
Got up super early to get the bus to Phitsanulok, a place about 5 hours north of Bangkok. Lonely Planet said it was a good place to go and I thought so too as was off beaten track and made me feel like real traveler etc etc....well was completely empty of travelers! Though the hostel I stayed in was really beautiful, it was a bit falling apart but otherwise pretty much perfect! I was the only person staying there which was a bit weird but at least I didn't have to queue for a shower and had a giant room to myself! Phitsanulok had one main attraction the monastery which I managed to explore in all of half and hour, needless to say after one night I headed up to the next "stop" en route to Chiang Mai, a place called Sukhothai which has a "famous" historical park. I managed to get a really nice guesthouse, 3 quid for my room with a HOT SHOWER!!!! (You don't understand how nice this was as have been having cold showers since I left KL) and felt so productive I even did the historical park at dusk and got some beautiful photos of the wats at sunset. You could also have dinner at the lakeside and watch the sunset further but was a lil bit too romantic for me and felt sad without young man.
Got up early again, (ug I thought traveling was supposed to be relaxing) to get crazy bumpy bus ride to Chiang Mai, which is where I am now! Haven' done much just settled in but I am planning to go trekking, visit the hot springs in Pai, bungee jump over the jungle river and get in some cooking lessons at the local thai cooking school! Tomorrow have plans to move to slightly more happening hostl to meet some folks and also check out the night market and local sights.
Love to you all
Jo
