Jo's Most Excellent Adventure
A ring ding ding ding baaarrp baaarp wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
That's right folks, its me the new Crazy Frog zooming round the fantastic place that is PAI on my motorbike! (Who needs to have a licence ahem) Left Chiang Mai and hopped on the local bus to Pai this fantastic town hidden away in the mountains in Northern Thailand. The journey was a bit of a nightmare, the bus was rickety, had fans for "air con" and I was squished between a pile of tyres and a bag of coffee for four hours whilst we swerved round the mountains.....an experience shall we say!
Arrive at Pai and it's the most fantastic place - the best I've been to so far, even topping Oasis in Bangkok. Was supposed to stay for 4 days.....and I've been here for over 10! Oooops! Its so chilled out and peaceful here, the landscape is beautiful and I managed to get a great hut right next to the river over looking the mountains covered in jungle! I get woken up every mountain by gibbons! All the people are really friendly and I've made some great friends here, we don't do much to be honest, get up have breakfast, get a thai massage, sunbathe on the verandas on our huts just reading all the books you never have time for back home, eat lunch, siesta, then explore the various canyons, hot springs and waterfalls in the area on our bikes. In the evenings there are about four bars to go to and the most famous one - "Bebop!" has a live house band that plays every night until 2 in the morning. My fave so far was Talking Heads night!!!
A couple of nights ago there was an all nighter reggae party in a field up one of the mountains, the bands were a bit rubbish but everyone was just sitting round the fires having a good time! Also I found out something rather interesting about the Thai beer - Chang - apparently it doesn't have a fixed alcohol percentage so it's a bit like Russian roulette when you drink it you don't know whether you'll be pissed after one or eight! (It took two for me lol)
This is the life! I could honestly stay here a month, but sadly tomorrow I have to go to Laos to do the tree hut gibbon thing. Will definitely come back to Pai as it's the ultimate place to chill out - the weather's fantastic - it's a lot less humid in the mountains than further south.
As I stayed in Pai so long, I'm going to have to miss out Chiang Rai but I definitely need to come back here - there's just so much of Thailand I haven't been able to do and I'm finally getting to grips with the language!
Sorry this isn't a longer blog, its just I have to meet a gentleman friend in a bar in about ten minutes......so I'll leave you in suspense!!! Lol
