Day 49/50 - Hanoi
We had booked a bus for 6pm tonight to Hoi An so arranged with the hotel to check out at 6 instead of 12. So we had a long lie and then went out for lunch. We found a Mexican place which was really good. We went back and packed our bags and got sorted before having dinner. We checked out of the hotel at quarter to 6 and sat at reception to be picked up at 6. By half 6 we were assuming it was the usual 30 minutes late, but as time went on further we asked reception to call the bus company for us. She then told us they had forgotten about us and would be 5 minutes. Half an hour later we were still waiting. By this point it was 7.15 and the bus was supposed to leave at 7.30. So we called again and were told 10 minutes. Another half an hour later they finally picked us up. The bus we were supposed to be on had left, so they put us on the next bus. When we got on we tried to destress a bit. We got comfy on the beds with the pillows and blankets that were provided so we could hopefully get some sleep. Before the bus driver sat down however, he came over to us and, out of the blue, yanked the pillows out from under our heads. With no explanation whatsoever he threw them to the side and got into his seat. He didn't take anyone else's, just Michael and I! Very confusing and very rude! So the anger was just building up. We set off and both managed to fall asleep through most of the night. When i woke the next morning i found my bag had been robbed. Some one had stolen my iPhone from inside. I asked the bus attendant if the camera worked and he pretty much laughed at ms and said no. The way he acted made me very suspicious of him, but of course I can't accuse people. Soon after, we stopped in a place called Hue which is 4-5 hours away from Hoi An. At this point they chucked us off the bus. We tried to explain that we were supposed to be going to Hoi An, and were told we'd have to wait four hours for the next bus! Turns out that since we had missed the bus the night before, we had been put on a bus that only goes this far. We had to wait until the next bus leaving from Hanoi to Hoi An made it to Hue to pick us up. By this point my patience were gone! Thankfully, Hue was A lovely place, so we walked around down by the river and had a nice lunch. This helped bring the stress levels down a bit! Finally the next bus arrived and we headed on the next four hours of the journey. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end here. The bus ended with a flat tire, and there was no spare. The driver said if we could continue on a little bit he could get it fixed, but a lot of people on the bus refused. So we were dumped at the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Someone was trying to organise taxis for everyone but we were in the middle of nowhere. After an hour and a half the bus driver came back with a new wheel. And finally, after another few hours, we made it to Hoi An. Our hotel picked us up from the bus stop, so we dumped our stuff and had showers then went out for dinner. We then had an early night,
We were absolutely exhausted.
