On the way to St Privat-d'Allier I visited a small chapel dedicated to St Roche( when time permits a note about him but of interest was a statue of St Christopher carrying the baby Jesus across a flooded river. For centuries st Chris was honoured as the saint for a safe journey and his image was often attached to the rear vision mirror of a car for safe driving (more recently one sees a rosary or in the case of Muslims. a miniature copy of the Koran or Chinese symbol of good fortune or in the case of agnostics a question mark or for the atheist nothing, even the mirror has been removed) but back to St Chris he has been removed from the canon of Saints and devotion to him is no longer encouraged but it seems no one told the French at least not in rural France.
But this blog was meant to be about an interesting dinner with Greda and Gunther; so the next one to follow shortly will be.
I should have mentioned that I have just completed day two- more of that after G and G,
